For the brother we loved, but could not keep

Created by Wayne's Family 11 years ago
Our Wayne, On the 4th April 2010 as the result of a hit and run incident my brother Wayne Leary who was only 38 was taken away from us. The driver was both uninsured and unlicensed. Wayne’s 10 year old daughter Aimee was with her Dad and witnessed the incident, she turned 11 two days later. The loss of Wayne has left a daughter without her beloved and doting father, it has left my parents heartbroken at the loss of a cherished son and it has left both his younger brother Jason and myself grieving for the brother we shared so many happy memories with. Wayne’s friends and colleagues have donated on his behalf £525 to Brake to help them in the good and valued work they do. Below is the poem that I adapted and read out for Wayne at his service, it gave me some comfort to be able to do that last thing for him. We will always love and remember you Wayne each and every day until we are all together again. Love you always from Mum, Dad, Aimee, Lisa and Jason. Wayne we think of you with love today But that is nothing new, We thought about you yesterday And the days before that too. We think of you in silence We often speak your name, For all we have are memories And your picture in a frame. Don’t ever think you are forgotten Even Though on earth you are no more, But in our memory you are with us As you always were before. A million times we’ve thought of you A million times we’ve cried, If loving could have saved you Wayne You would have never died. You left us beautiful memories Your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you You are always at our side. It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone, Part of us went with you Wayne On the day God called you home. Forgive us Lord, for we will always weep For the brother we loved, but could not keep.
